elite dangerous‘Update 15 will open a new phase in the years’ war against the Thargoids. Frontier Developments revealed that it is adding new player-owned technology to the game, along with a new alien fighter ship. There will also be a new ground-based mission type in planetary settlements.

Thargoids are an alien species that was introduced in its modern incarnation Aristocrat class In 2017. While it’s true that humanity shot first, things escalated significantly in 2022 when the Thargoids launched a massive and deadly invasion with the potential to wipe out humanity. A series of toxic clouds known as vortices were the first step. Once in place, they deflected additional Thargoid forces into the promiscuous western spiral arm of the Milky Way galaxy. After the loss of several billion human lives, things are still not going particularly well for players who have been shooting down attackers and rescuing refugees as quickly as possible for months.

Update 15 will add a new Thargoid Pulse Neutralizer — teased in-game on May 2 — that will allow players to access the center of these vortexes for the first time. What they’ll find there is anyone’s guess, but hopefully it’s a way of slowing the aliens’ continued advance into human-occupied space.

Thargoid hunter-class ships are also coming into play, and the developers stated that these extremely active ships could prevent commanders from surviving combat once engaged. The Glaive – a small, fast and heavily armored new ship – is the first of these hunter-class ships and can run circles around all but the most high-end builds in the game.

There will also be a new on-foot mission type that will require players to infiltrate stealthy Knockout planetary settlements — interactive planetary surface locations that were added to the game in 2020. Players must try and turn the power back on without being vaporized. A press-only preview video showed a completely silent settlement on the dark side of a planet, with players dodging Thargoid Revenants — relatively small flying vehicles about the size of a planetary rover. These vehicles project bright yellow vision cones onto the ground in front of them. Stumble into those cones, and a firefight will quickly ensue as Revenant brings his friends over to end the fight.

The update will be free for 15 owners elite dangerous Which play on PC using the 4.0 codebase.
