last of usMonsters are not your average zombies. Yes, they are gross. Yes, they bite. But after death they are not revived. Instead, they are living beings called a fungus. Cordyceps — their everything is growing and spreading the infection as far as possible.

Cordyceps The infection develops over the course of an infected person’s lifetime, which is what makes the Last of Us games so scary. Each of these different developments poses a unique threat. For example, the first phase – when someone first turns on – is super fast and can detect uninfected people to follow. Clickers, the later stage, are blind, with mushroom-like growths covering their faces and obscuring their vision.

We Haven’t Seen All the Infected Types From the Games Shown at HBO Yet last of usBut they might be coming.

The first stage of infection is when the fungus spreads throughout the body. in hbo last of usThe show’s producers slipped in an infographic to explain how long it takes for an infection to spread inside a person, depending on the location of the bite: On the head or neck, it happens as quickly as minutes. If the bite was on an extremity such as a leg or arm, this may take closer to 24 hours. The first symptoms of infection include cough, slurred speech, muscle cramps, and mood changes. (Remember the old lady in Episode 1? Muscle spasms were the first sign.)

Runners are fast – inhumanly fast – and often travel in large groups. They look a lot like regular zombies, as they haven’t started growing mushrooms yet.

stalker

Stalkers are probably the most common type of infected. They are slightly more advanced than runners and have visible changes – fungi grow out of their bodies, and sometimes their flesh is apparently rotting. Hunters are not as fast as runners, but they are very deadly, always hidden, and ready to attack. In games, stalkers sometimes grow on walls where mushroom tendrils hold them down. When you pass by, they break free in a surprise attack.

we saw them on hbo last of us, but is completely walled up and appears to be dead. In some cases, it appears that the fungus network may still be alive, but in other cases, it is clearly dead and collapsing.

clicker

Probably the weirdest sounding thing in the show (and game), clickers are infected that have been around for a while, with mushrooms apparently taking over the eyes, popping out of the head. They cannot see, so it is necessary to approach them slowly and silently. Any noise will alert the clicker, and they are very good at using audio cues to find their prey. They are easy to identify because of their signature clicking noise, a form of echolocation, and the massive fruiting mushroom from the head. we saw some of these on hbo last of us In the second episode at the Boston Historical Museum.

Blotter/Shumbler

Bloaters are the most advanced stage, and there are a few different types within the group. We haven’t seen one of these in the show yet, but HBO teased a blotter in the first one last of us‘ trailer. You can tell an infected has a bloater because of its shape—they’re large, wiry, and naturally, bloated with rotting mushroom bubbles. Bloaters and Shamblers are slow but really strong, and they can have a surge of energy to hurl them towards an enemy. The layers of fungus act like a shield, which also makes them difficult to kill. They can also rip those growths off their bodies and throw them away, sending harmful acids everywhere. If you get caught by the bloater in the game, it’s a quick kill – and it rips your head in half with Jaws.

Shamblers are basically waterlogged bloaters that are more commonly found on the West Coast in sports. They are quite similar, but emit an acid gas that they spit at enemies.

Mouse king

An Infected From The Last Of Us Part 2 Called The Rat King Is Made Of Lots Of Monsters

We’ve only seen one Rat King infected in the Last of Us games, and it’s gorgeous: it’s a whole lot of infected clickers, runners, and stalkers all mashed together. This could be an anomaly, and who knows if we’ll see one in the first season. the last of us. fight against the rat king in the last of us part 2 Occurs in two phases, and the monster breaks into different infected. It has all the features of the infected including throwing mushroom bombs and releasing poisonous gas.
