based on Metaphor: ReFantaziofirst trailer, that “Atlas flavor” is certainly clear, but whether this is a “complete departure” from SMT and Persona seems arguable. Metaphor resembles a Persona game, at least in terms of its stylish playable characters, bizarre-looking creatures, and ornate user interface.

Metaphor: ReFantazio Players are put in control of a blue-haired character named Traveling Boy, who leads a party that includes characters such as Strohl, Hulkenberg, the Fennec fox-like creature Hisme, and the fairy Gallica. It seems that each character has a role – or archetype – such as knight, fighter, thief or seeker. Like Persona, it appears the main character will form bonds with others, perhaps to advance story elements and level up teammates.

Here’s Atlus’ rather vague official description of what players can expect Metaphor: ReFantazio,

Write your own destiny and rise above fear as you step into a fantasy world the likes of which you have never seen before. Full of disturbing secrets, the kingdom stands on a cliff. Now, you must embark on a journey overcoming obstacles and making connections with friends.
