overwatch 2The next three seasons of content will include the arrival of PvE story missions, an all-new support hero, and a limited-time event called Questwatch. Blizzard announced on Tuesday, Story missions have been part of the game’s plans since 2019, when Blizzard announced overwatch 2But they’ll eventually arrive in a very different form than what was originally promised by the developer.
The game’s director Aaron Keller and executive producer Jared Neuss said during a Twitch stream that season 6 would include overwatch 2“The first major story-based event of […] With a new set of missions that will start a new story arc for Overwatch. News announced that the story-driven PvE content would not include the long-term power progression and hero-specific talent trees that Blizzard had originally promised, with Keller explaining that “a big one-time PvE release Instead of doing that, Blizzard plans to make co-op gameplay and experiences part of its ongoing live game roadmap. Some of those cooperative experiences will be canon to Overwatch’s story, while others will not, Keller said.
“Development on the PvE experience hasn’t really made the progress we’d hoped for,” Neuss explained. “The team created a bunch of amazing content, so there are awesome missions that are really exciting, brand-new enemies that are super fun to fight, and some really great and ridiculous hero talents. But unfortunately Blizzard -All the effort required to pull it all together into a quality experience that we can send you is immense and there really is no end in sight […] So we’re left with another difficult choice: do we continue to put all our effort into PvE in the hope that we can make it at some point in the future, or do we […] Pay attention to live games?
“With everything we’ve learned to operate this game at the level it deserves, it’s clear that we can’t deliver on that original vision for PvE that was shown in 2019. We will not deliver that dedicated hero. Mods with the talent tree, that long term power progression, those things aren’t in our plans right now.
Added Keller, “We want you to be able to experience this more often and with more variety than originally announced.”
Blizzard’s announcement will certainly come as a huge blow to Overwatch fans, who were captivated by the player progression and variety of hero talents Blizzard promised at BlizzOnline 2021. For now, it appears that players stuck with Overwatch will, as is tradition, receive story content in bits and pieces over the coming months and years.
