The D&D movie directors are up for a sequel, maybe featuring Drizzt

“It was never our intention when we came upon this film to create a franchise,” says Daly. “I think it will undermine our ability to focus solely on the film. The main mistake many studios make is putting the cart before the horse, where they go from making a cinematic look to a good solo film.” Let’s start building the universe. And obviously, we have a lot of affection for both the actors and the roles they play. But we’re looking forward to introducing some new figures and of course a lot of new monsters along the way.

“And new places,” Daly says.

Goldstein says, “Yeah, you know, we did Forgotten Realms for this, partly because it’s such a recognizable medieval setting.” “But there are so many worlds within D&D that we can explore.”

Daly says, “Now that we’ve finished it, and we’re relying on luck to decide whether it’s a success, we’d love to continue telling stories in this world.” “We think it’s absolutely ripe with potential.”

What will Honor Among Thieves 2 look like?

Part of that potential, Daley says, is a core element of Dungeons & Dragons that doesn’t make it into his movie: “I think if we were lucky enough to do another one of these, we would be able to level up our characters.” Would like to see above. Daly says, “Darizzt really came up as we were figuring out what would be our first film.” But the consensus wasn’t quite there yet. That said, he’s definitely a popular character in the world, and one that could be exciting to explore.

“How about a movie where Drizzt meets characters from the ’80s?” Goldstein asks, referring to the 1980s Saturday morning cartoon characters who appear in a maze sequence in a honor among thieves‘ geekiest reference.

“And the character from the ’80s is left badly crippled after his experience in the Labyrinth?” Daly laughs.

It seems less likely than a stop-motion D&D movie. But to Daly, this kind of imaginative messing with the possibilities of WOTC properties is part of the fun of the D&D story. “There are so many characters in this world,” he says. “It would be really fun to either have him included in the group we’ve established, or do some kind of offshoot of our movie to get into his backstory.”
